St. Petersburg has long been a city of sailors and July 26 is the day when the city celebrates the thousands of naval officers who live, study and work here. Typically the celebrations take place along the Neva embankment and also at the historic naval base of Krohnstadt. On and around Dvortosovaya emb. and Admiralteisky emb. a whole flotilla of war ships decked in flags will be on display and the ship’s crews will be running round the streets partying and meeting family. At Krohnstadt member of the public will be allowed to look around the war ships stationed there and watch the naval troops parading through the town. The day will be rounded off with a concert on the spit of Vasilevsky island and as usual, in spite of the obvious lack of darkness at this time of year, a fire-work display.
