Peterhof, in St. Petersburg, has closed its fountain season with a magnificent show featuring laser special effects and fireworks. The colorful display, called Fontaniana, marked the 305th anniversary of the state museum complex.

The first part of the multi-media concert comprised a light show and ballet entitled Bolero with fire, to music by Maurice Ravel. The second part was dedicated to the anniversary of Peterhof’s construction. The audience watched the history around the construction of this famous tsar’s palace as it was displayed on the façade of the Grand Palace itself.

Peterhof was founded by Peter the Great in 1714 and was ceremonially opened in August 1723.

The world’s largest system of fountains and water cascades, as well as the larger part of Peterhof sculptures, were created in the mid-1720s.
