High-speed express day train Sapsan

High - speed day trains Sapsan are going from St.Petersburg to Moscow and From Moscow to St.Petersburg at the same time. The trips are made in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening. Each train has 10 carriages, which are: 2 carriages of the 1st class, 7 carriages of second class and a carriage-restaurant. In 1st class carriages the space between the rows is larger, the hot meal with a possibility to choose from the menu is included, fresh newspapers and hygienic set are also provided in 1st class. The total number of seats in each Sapsan is 554. One carriage (number 6) is specially constructed for disabled people: there are special seats, free space for a wheel chair and specially constructed bathroom.

"Peregrine falcon"
Sapsan train got it's name from the fastest bird in the world Peregrine Falcon, which is "Sapsan" or "Sokol" in Russian. Sapsan train is the fastest train between Moscow and St.Petersburg nowadays. It was constructed specially for Russian Railways by "Siemens Transportation Systems", originally it belongs to the Velaro Family by Siemens. With the maximum speed of 250 km/h the train covers the distance between two Russian capitals in 3h 45 min.

Arrival of Sapsan trains in Russia was a first step in global reconstruction of Russian railroads. It is planned now to build new railroad between St.Petersburg and Moscow, where the trains will be able to increase their speed to 330 km/h. It will allow to reduce the duration of train trip to 2,5 hours.
