Alexander Nevsky Lavra

Alexander Nevsky Lavra (Monastery) was founded by Peter I the Great to house the relics of Alexander Nevsky, patron saint of the city. But later on its territory  appeared two cemeteries, where now you can see the tombs of many Russian celebrities such as Lomonosov, Thcaikovsky, Dostoevsky, Suvorov, etc.

Nikolsky (St. Nicolas) Cathedral is a fabulous example of Russian baroque architecture. It was built in the honour of Russian fleet's victories. Now it is a functional cathedral, situated on Krukov canal. Its very impressive building contains a lower church (for day to day services) and an upper church (for special events).
